Questions we are dying to ask artists.

"Curiouser and curiouser!",cried Alice.

Artist with paint pallet and canvas.
We all have questions for the artist. In this blog you will learn about the two most common questions asked in the gallery.

#1. How long DOES it take for you to paint a painting?

Whistler said when asked how long it took to do "Nocturne in Blue and Gold", he stated It has taken me a lifetime to get to where I can even begin to do this."

Found on Art Forum where many responded to this question and the answers varied quite a bit.

  • Short Answer: It takes as long as it takes.

  • Three to four sessions of two to three hours.

  • Fifteen to Twenty hours.

  • After two to four hours, I end up doodling or throwing away.

#2. What Ever inspired you to paint this painting?

After gathering several answers, the ones below are my favorite.

  • Inspiration is for amateurs-the rest of us just show up and get to work.-Chuck Close

  • Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.- Picasso

All in all, there are dozens of answers to just these two questions we are dying to ask artists that are as unique as the artist's work itself.
