Artist Laura Williams![]() As I am constructing and painting my realistic landscapes, similes come to my mind. Trees are like humans with limbs of a graceful ballerina or split open by storms with scars like a wounded soldier. Rocks are like buildings enclosing space, defining boundaries, leading our eye and possibly our path in directions that reveal reverence.
I would like the viewer to be drawn into my paintings much like I am initially drawn into the scene’s focal point, be it deep inside the base of a juniper, the center of a yucca tree, or the line of a shimmering stream. I hope the viewer would then begin to notice even more intimate areas of the work and find rock cairns or other unnoticed details. Ultimately, I want the landscape to transcend the visual and move toward feelings that evoke human parallels.
